Arts For Colorado Event: Burning Man

You’ve likely heard of the “party” in the Nevada desert called Burning Man. That Thing In The Desert is also an incubator for participatory, community based creative projects; many of which hail from around Colorado. Experience the art of Burning Man first hand and talk to the artists about their projects.

Apogaea, the Colorado regional Burning Man event held in the mountains of Bailey granted $50,000 to creative projects last year and expects to award $55,000 in 2015. Hear from 5 local artists who create dynamic experiences across disciplines for Apogaea and Burning Man.

Robert Rhu
Creator of The Story Portal which connects individuals to the vast world of shared experience through spontaneous and true storytelling. Story Portal has participated in Apogaea, Burning Man and various other local community events.

Veronica Rivard
The administrator for a collaborative workspace called gammaspace where many large projects have been built for both Apogaea and Burning Man. Managing member of the WelDid Crew which has built 2 large metal fire sculptures for Apogaea, Prima Materia and Arcus Hymenoptera, and has more sculptures in the works for this year.

Shane Evans
Creator of Robot Resurrection, a 30 foot tall articulating sculpture with flame, laser and smoke effects. Evans was awarded the largest single grant from Apogaea to date. The Robot was erected at Apogaea and Burning Man in 2014.

Nick Geurts
Creator of “Tree of (Im)Permanence”, a 20ft tall stainless steel interactive musical tree which was awarded an honorarium art grant for Burning Man 2014. A structural engineer by profession, the Burning Man honorarium program afforded Nick the opportunity to create large scale interactive art which has been a dream of his since his first burn in 2005.

Nick Geurts will be available for small group coaching for people who are interested in applying for a Burning Man honorarium this year.

Meg Woodhouse and Bob Meydenbauer will be available to answer questions about the Burning Man Project, the 501(3)c organization responsible for producing the Burning Man event.
